Video production and short-form editing

Video Production and Editing for Local Businesses

You film the raw footage on your phone. We turn it into polished short-form clips, captioned videos, and long-form edits that make you look like the obvious choice in your market.

Published pricing. No contracts, 60-day notice to cancel.

What kind of video should a local business make?

Local businesses win with simple, useful video: short clips that answer buyer questions, job site and listing walkthroughs, before and after reveals, and a face people trust. Polished editing, captions, and strong opening lines matter more than expensive cameras. Evolution Media Group directs the filming, edits everything, and publishes it for you.

The problem

Why does most business video fail to get watched?

Most owners have hundreds of videos on their phone and almost none of them online. The ones that do get posted often look like everyone else's.

Footage that never gets edited

Job site clips, listing walkthroughs, and customer moments sit on phones because editing takes time nobody has.

Weak first seconds

Short-form viewers decide in the first moment whether to keep watching. Videos that open with a logo or a slow pan get scrolled past.

No captions

Many people scroll with the sound off. Without captions, the message never lands.

Overproduced and impersonal

One expensive brand video a year cannot compete with steady, real, useful content that shows the people behind the business.

No plan for what to film

Without a shot list, owners film the same things over and over, and the feed gets repetitive.

Wrong format for the platform

Horizontal video in a vertical feed, or a 10 minute edit where 30 seconds would do, wastes good footage.

How it works

How does video production work, step by step?

We direct, you capture, we edit and publish. No film crew needed for most local businesses.

  1. Shot list and filming promptsEach month you get a short list of what to film and say: answers to buyer questions, job or listing walkthroughs, behind the scenes moments, and testimonials. Each prompt includes the opening line, so the hook is planned before you hit record.
  2. Simple setupWe send a phone setup checklist: framing, light, and a clip-on microphone. Most clients film everything they need in one session, plus quick clips captured on the job.
  3. UploadYou drop raw footage into a shared folder. No editing, no trimming, no stress about mistakes. We cut those out.
  4. Edit for attentionWe cut dead air, tighten the pacing, and open every clip with the strongest line. We use transcript-based editing in Descript to find the best moments fast, and a person chooses every clip that goes out.
  5. Captions and brandingEvery video gets accurate captions, on-screen text, and consistent brand styling, framed vertically for short-form or horizontally for long-form.
  6. Review and approveYou see the batch before it publishes. Request changes in plain language, and we handle them.
  7. Publish and learnWe publish on schedule and track which hooks, topics, and formats hold attention, then feed those lessons into next month's shot list.

What we make

What types of videos do we produce?

The mix depends on your business. These are the formats that work best for local service businesses and owner-led brands.

Short-form

Question clips

Thirty to sixty seconds answering one question buyers ask: what it costs, how long it takes, what to watch out for.

Short-form

Before and after

Transformations are the most natural content a contractor has. A clear reveal with a short explanation does the selling.

Short-form

Walkthroughs

Listings, job sites, and projects in progress, edited tight with captions that point out what matters.

Short-form

Hook reels

B-roll with a strong text hook and a takeaway. Fast to produce and easy to keep consistent.

Long-form

Explainers

Five to fifteen minute videos that walk through a process or decision, built for YouTube and your website.

Long-form

Customer stories

Real customers on camera explaining the problem, the work, and the result. The most persuasive video you can own.

Grade your video

What does good short-form video look like?

Hold your last ten videos up to this list.

  • The first sentence or image tells viewers why to keep watching
  • Captions on every video, accurate and easy to read
  • Vertical framing for short-form, with your face clearly visible
  • One idea per clip
  • Clean audio, even on a job site
  • Consistent brand styling across every clip
  • Real people and real work, not stock footage
  • A clear next step at the end
  • Posted on a steady schedule
  • Reviewed monthly to see which hooks held attention

Proof

What does a real clip system produce?

Our best media case study, the Rounding Third Media Network, started with zero followers and no playbook. It runs on the same editing system we use for clients.

Weekly livestreamed shows are edited with transcript-based tools, and a person picks every clip worth posting. Between March 1 and November 2, 2026, that system published 1,138 videos to YouTube alone. The channel now has 4,494 videos and more than 2.54 million lifetime views.

On Facebook, the same clips earned 61.2 million views and 4.4 million engagements in the 12 months ending October 31, 2026. Read the full Rounding Third case study.

Rounding Third was co-founded by EMG founder Harrison Smith. EMG runs its production, distribution, and growth. Numbers: vidIQ for YouTube, Meta page insights for Facebook.

For local businesses

Can short videos really grow a local business?

Yes, when they answer the questions buyers ask and show up consistently.

Real estate

From unknown to local expert

A newer agent moved to a market where she knew no one. A content system built around FAQ videos, blog posts, and social clips made her the local expert. Within 18 months her GCI grew from zero to $242,000, and she later built a team that runs on inbound leads.

Contractors and home services

Proof in every feed

Homeowners hire businesses they feel they already know. Steady before and after clips, job walkthroughs, and quick answers keep you in their feed until they need you. Pair video with home services marketing to turn that attention into calls.

Filming guide

How should you film business videos on a phone?

You do not need a camera crew. You need five habits. We send this checklist to every new client before the first session.

1. Light from the front

Face a window or stand with the sun behind the camera. Light behind you turns your face into a shadow. On a job site, film in open shade when you can.

2. Sound beats picture

Viewers forgive a slightly soft image, but not bad audio. A clip-on wireless microphone is the single best purchase for business video. Turn off loud equipment for the few seconds you speak.

3. Frame for the platform

Hold the phone vertically for short-form. Keep your eyes about a third of the way down the frame and leave a little space above your head. For long-form YouTube, turn the phone sideways.

4. Steady the shot

A small tripod or a phone clamp keeps talking clips steady. For walkthroughs, move slowly and hold each important detail for two or three seconds so we have room to edit.

5. Say the hook first

Start every clip with the opening line from your filming prompt, then explain. If you stumble, pause, and start the sentence again. We cut the mistakes out.

6. Capture extra b-roll

Ten seconds of hands working, tools, trucks, rooms, and finished details gives us footage to cover cuts and keep clips moving.

Shot list

What should you film this month?

A sample monthly shot list for a local service business. Yours is built around your services, your season, and the questions your team hears most.

One filming session of about an hour, plus a few quick clips captured on the job, usually covers a full month on the Presence package. When a shot performs well, we film a variation the next month instead of starting from scratch.

Common mistakes

What video mistakes cost local businesses the most?

Waiting for perfect

Owners hold off until they can afford a crew.

Fix: start with a phone and a microphone. Consistency beats production value.

Logo intros

A spinning logo is the fastest way to lose a viewer.

Fix: open with the problem, the answer, or the reveal.

One video, one post

A single long recording posted once wastes most of its value.

Fix: cut it into many clips and post them across the month.

Stock footage

Generic footage tells buyers nothing about you.

Fix: use your people, your trucks, your listings, and your work.

No captions

Muted viewers miss the point entirely.

Fix: caption every video, every time.

No review loop

Posting without looking at results repeats what does not work.

Fix: review watch time monthly and adjust the shot list.

Questions

Video production questions

How much does video production cost?

Video editing and production are included in every media package: Presence at $997 a month for one lane, Authority at $1,797 for Social and YouTube, and Network at $2,997 with a weekly show. All are month to month.

Do you send a film crew?

For most local businesses, no. You film on a phone using our shot list and setup checklist, and we handle editing. It keeps costs down and lets you capture real moments on the job.

What equipment do I need?

A recent smartphone, a clip-on microphone, and good light. That is enough for professional-looking short-form video once it is edited well.

How long does editing take?

Once footage is uploaded, most batches are edited and ready for your review within a few business days, then scheduled across the month.

Can I approve videos before they post?

Yes. You review each batch and request changes in plain language before anything is published.

Do I have to be on camera?

Your face builds trust fastest, but it is not required. Job site footage, voiceovers, and team members on camera all work.

Who owns the videos?

You do. You keep every edited video and raw file, whether or not you keep working with us.

How many videos should a local business post each week?

Consistency matters more than volume. Four or five posts a week, most of them short videos, keeps most local businesses in front of their market. That is the Social lane of our Presence package, and Authority adds long-form YouTube on top.

Can my videos be used on my Google Business Profile and website?

Yes, and they should be. We add short clips to your Google Business Profile, embed long-form videos on the matching service pages of your website, and use stills as photos. One shoot then supports search, social, and your site at the same time.

Can you edit footage I already have?

Yes. Many clients start by sending the backlog on their phones. It is often enough for the first month of clips.
